She Hated Them! Replacing Our RV Shower Doors with a Shower Curtain

Hey everyone, welcome back to The Roaming Gomes! This week, we're tackling a project that's been on our list for a while - replacing the shower doors in our RV. Let's just say, Cindy wasn't a huge fan...

Why Ditch the Doors?

There were a few reasons we decided to swap the doors for a shower curtain. First, and probably the biggest reason, is that they were a pain to keep clean. No matter how much we scrubbed, they always seemed to have hard water stains and soap scum. Second, they added a surprising amount of weight – about 100 pounds in total! Every pound counts when you're living full-time in an RV.

Taking Out the Trash (Doors)

Alright, here's how we removed the shower doors. Unfortunately, I didn't film taking out the door stops, but that's a simple one-screw job.

Next, we tackled the doors themselves. There seems to be a misconception out there that you just push a button and the doors pop out. Not quite! First, line up the little buttons on the rollers with the cutout in the track. Then, and only then, can you push the buttons and remove the doors.

The side panels come out next. One screw at the top loosens the track enough to wiggle the panels out. We kept the top bar as our new shower curtain rod.

The bottom rail was another story. It was gross and nearly impossible to clean. We ended up cutting the caulk around it, then simply pulling it out. A quick scrub-down of the area, and it was ready for the shower curtain.

Curtain Time!

We went with a classic shower curtain and liner combo. Make sure to get shower curtain hooks that fit the diameter of your rod (ours needed 2-inch hooks). We actually have some different ones on order that we think will look even better.

The Big Reveal

We're so happy with the final result! The bathroom looks brighter and cleaner, and the shower curtain is much easier to maintain. Plus, we shed some unwanted weight!

So, what do you think? Let us know in the comments below if you've replaced your RV shower doors. If you'd like a bit more detail, be sure to check out the full video below!
