Downsizing For Your Full-Time RV Life!

Probably one of, if not the most, important things that needs to be done when you're transitioning from a "Sticks & Bricks" life into a Full-Time RV Life is downsizing!

Downsizing starts with a mindset change. You have to look at the decision you've made to full-time RV and decide if it's a real priority in your life. In order to do that, you have to make your possessions less important than the freedom and experiences that you're about to encounter.

“The things you own end up owning you. It's only after you lose everything that you're free to do anything.”

― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club

Now, we're not saying that you need to "lose everything" but, what we are saying is that a 12-14 hundred square or larger home just is NOT going to fit inside a 3-400 square foot RV! There are weight limitations on RV's as well as space limitations. When you buy an RV, it will have a label showing the "GVWR" or "Gross Vehicle Weight Rating". That number is the dry weight only.

RV Weight Label

The dry weight is the weight of the RV without full propane tanks, full water tanks or any of your stuff. Basically, it's the weight of the RV as it rolls off the assembly line. You will have to consider what your truck can pull, and the damage that you could do to your axles and leaf springs by overloading your RV.

Sentimental items can be scanned and uploaded to the cloud. We realize that many don't trust or understand technology but it's something that must be embraced if you're going to successfully downsize.
